I did it…

19 Jul

After much debate and reading through what felt like hundreds of reviews, I bought a Sony Reader Touch!  I got it for a great deal through Dell, and can't wait to get it!
For months, I debated if I even wanted an E-reader.  While I love the feel of a book in my hands, the ability to hold hundreds of books on one device has appealed to me since e-readers first hit the scene.  Some people question the value of an E-reader because they often remark that it "can't do anything else."  I suppose I can understand that.  But I read (on average) 2-3 books a week.  So something like this is not only practical for me, but it makes reading books (and transporting them) so much easier.
When I finally decided that I wanted one, I scoured electronics websites for reviews.  All of the E-readers have pros and cons.  I went in to stores and actually tested them ('cause you can't believe everything you read!).  It came down to the Kindle and the Sony Reader.  Though the Kindle has a one-up on the Sony in the wireless department, The Sony Reader won because titles can be purchased from a variety of vendors, and E-books can also be borrowed from local libraries and among friends.  Google books also offers tons of free E-books that are compatible with the Sony Reader!
Now let me be clear.  I don't want my E-reader to totally replace buying books.  I review books for a variety of websites and plan to continue receiving books from these fantastic publishers.  I also worked in a library for six years; I love libraries and  the services they offer, and I plan to continue checking out books and supporting my local libraries.  Owning an E-reader will never change my devotion to reading and the power it unlocks within the human mind, heart and soul.
How about you?  What are the pros and cons of E-readers for you?  Would you buy one?

I don't think I'll ever use an E-reader. I have a hard time reading large quantities of text on a screen, so I fear an E-reader would just give me a headache. lol

Wow you read 2 to 3 books a WEEK? That is so awesome, and inspiring! I'm lucky to get through 1 a week. Congrats on your new e-reader! I can't wait to hear your reviews on it 🙂
