The 23rd Psalm…

6 Feb

“The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
he restores my soul.
He guides me in paths of righteousness
for his name’s sake.

Even though I walk
through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.

Surely goodness and love will follow me
all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.”

So many times, we as humans become caught up in finding our life’s purpose. We want to know where we’re going and what we’ll be doing. Lately though, the Lord has been really speaking to me about enjoying the journey. If we become so wrapped up in discovering the mysteries of the future, we’ll miss out on the miracles of the now.

In the past I’ve been so worried about the future. I’ve worried about paths I’ve taken and whether or not I’ve made wrong turns in my life, and how that will affect the purpose God has for me. Psalm 23 comforts me, saying, “He guides me in paths of righteousness.” Whatever path I am walking, as long as I am walking with the Lord and seeking Him, I know that He is beside me, leading me, guiding me.

Don’t question God. Don’t look back on the past and wonder if you have done damage to God’s will for your future. Why can’t we just let God be God? Why can’t we just trust Him to lead us to where we’re meant to be? In the meantime, let’s try to enjoy the ride.
