You would think that while I’m sitting at home, I’ve been doing a lot of reading, but the truth is I have not started hacking into my summer reading list yet.  These aren’t your traditional “beach reads,” but they are certainly the books I plan on getting my hands on within the next two to three months.

Mansfield Park by Jane Austen.  Would you believe I’ve read every single Austen novel but this one?  I really want to dive into this one sometime within the next week or so.

The Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer.  I’ve read several of the tales, but never have read this classic in its entirety.  I’m looking forward to reading this one soon as well.

Those are just two of the classic (oh let’s just say it) canonical works I plan on reading this summer.  I also wouldn’t mind reading a few modern fictional works that I’ve heard are good, like Memoirs of a Geisha and My Sister’s Keeper.  I also wouldn’t mind getting my hands on some historical fiction.  I read Edward Rutherfurd’s Princes of Ireland a few years ago, and would love to read London, which has received rave reviews since its 1997 release.

So, as you can see I have a lot of reading to do.  I suppose that means I should log off of here for the night.

Browsing at Target today, I found the greatest kitchen gadget.  It’s the Chef’n Vibe Large Collapsible Colander.

Target had two colors, red and green.  As you can see from the above images, I’m partial to the red.  When open, this is a really great large colander.  The legs are very sturdy.  What’s even more great is that when this colander is folded, it will fit just about anywhere you want to store it!

If you are anything like me, you’re constantly trying to find ways to make things feel fresh in your home.  Purchasing art you truly love, painting your walls a different color, or even springing for new couches can be kind of costly.  That’s why I love Country Living’s list of 70 Simple Home Makeovers.

They have great ideas that include items you may already have in your home, or cost-effective solutions to update your decor.  Ideas are broken down by room, so it’s really easy to find just what you want for the room you’re looking to make over!

A few of my favorites include placing a bench, which provides plenty of space to kick off your heels and even store them.  Another idea of course is to place a small desk or console table in an entryway, which you can utilize to store necessary items such as keys.   Candles or nice vases would add a pretty touch to this idea as well.

For the kitchen, I love the unique idea of painting a panel of a cabinet with chalkboard paint, which will give you the memo board you need without taking up the extra space!  Very clever.

You know you’re a married woman when you’ve started clipping coupons to save as much money as possible. You know you might be getting a little bit obsessed when you’ve bookmarked sites like CouponMom and alphabetized tabs in a coupon organizer.

Seriously though, I used to make fun of people who did this sort of thing, and now I really see the value in it. My eyes have been opened to the money that can be saved if I would simply take the time to look for coupons and plan out meals according to deals I find on a weekly basis.

So…I might be obsessed, but at least we’re saving money!

The world’s oldest Bible, the Codex Sinaiticus, that dates back to the 4th century, is now available online.  Previously, this bible was held in four separate locations across the world. 

Amazing that a book written on parchment leaves could be restored in such a way so that readers across the world can view it online.  Check it out at the Codex Sinaiticus website!

In my quest to find some great DIY projects on my latest assignment for DIY Bride, I found this great project.

Using terra cot pots and saucers, Laurie at Once Wed created a really cute cupcake stand that would be perfect for any wedding.  This would also be great as a cake or cupcake stand just for entertaining at home.  Check out the step-by-step instructions here.
